Our nomination would be televise the home-and-away schedule of the Indiana Hoosier basketball team. Led by a pair of rugged iden tical twins, the Van Arsdales, they have thus far rolled over three opponents playing pos sibly the roughest basketball in the nation. Both twins, Dick and Tom, measure 6-5Vi and weigh around 220 pounds. Dick averaged 22.2 points a game last year, with 233 rebounds in 26 games, while Tom had 21.3 and 295 over the same space of time. They are tough under the boards, and are known to use every method possible to get to the ball or eliminate de fenders. a 6-9 Ron Peyser will be in the pivot, with 6-5 Jon McGlocklin and either 5-10 Al Harden or 6-2 Steve Redenbaugh at the guards. 'These -six were the top six last year on a team which fin ished as the biggest disappoint ment in the Big Ten with a record of 9-15, 5-9 in the con ference. However, six of the conference losses came by a total of 15 points, which meant that with any luck their record overall could have been 15-9, 31-4 in the Big Ten. However, this year the job will be much tougher, for the Hoosiers are extra tough on their home court in Bloom ington. Billy's 48-point explo sion Thursday brought his scoring average up to 26.8 and his rebounds to 16.6. 0 Bobby Lewis (18.0) is slowly but surely rounding into the form hoped of him before the season started, and his sopho more compatriots, Tom Gaunt lett (9.8) and Ian Morrison have been playing well. Last year they constantly butchered Billy Cunningham, once even drawing blood on an artful right cross that Willie Pastrano would have been been proud of (Gillette take note), all to no avail as the Heels won 77-70. According to coach Branch McCracken they just didn't pull together as a . team, but this year they seem to be showing signs of it. The most notable improvement has been in Pey ser, who last year "wasn't ag gressive enough" , (no bloody noses). Actually there was no defense necessary, for it would be dis astrous for the team to lose eith er Billy or Bob Lewis (whom he took out with 10 minutes left) with the Indiana and Vanderbilt games coming up. Smith was obviously very proud of his star. "He earned every point he got. We wanted him to get the record but we also had to play a ball game. Once he got the school record I had to pull him out because he means too much to the team. The team's play as a whole pleased Smith. "Tom Gauntlett continued to play well, as did Lewis. I was also pleased with the solid job that Mark Mirken did under the boards." The 47 field goals by the team is another school record, break ing the record of 44 set against South Carolina in 1958.
