It plays at all home basketball games and represents Carolina at on-the-road football games when the whole band cannot go. The Pep Band is recognizable for its county fair attire of striped blazers and straw hats. The Tar Heel Band prides itself in being more than a mere musical organization on campus. Yesulaitis has increased the band membership from 65 its present 140 in five years. A - former Air Force major, he has served as associate director of the Air Force Band and director of the Air Force Orchestra. He has appeared in concerts throughout the world and his Serenade in Blue is still carried by more than 2500 radio stations in the United States and abroad. Carolina's drum major team ' this year is headed by J. Frazier Glenn of Dalton, Ga., and sophomore Phillip Dutt of Lexington, Ky. Both have wide experience with high school and college bands. The majorette squad is composed of three twirlers, Jo Ellen Tunstall of Burlington will serve as head majorette and will be accompanied by Allene Fuller of Leonia, N.J., and 'Cindy Simpkins of Wrightsville Beach.
