' ' ' x . - - - LOS ANGELES-Vice President Hubert H. Humphrey, accusing his GOP rival of "razzle dazzle, frizzle frazzle" politics, challenged Richard M. Nixon Wednesday to a unique, cross-country touring debate on the issues. In an impromptu noontime speech at Pepperdine College, Humphrey said third party candidate George Wallace would join them in the nationwide debate during which they would share the same platform. "Politics should not be a razzle dazzle, frizzle frazzle circus," Humphrey said. Instead, he envisioned the three of them together. ". . . The three of us going across this country, standing on the same platform before the same crowds in the same city at the same time under the same auspices, and to sp?ak on the issues of the day and to have equal time and to be able to stand up and debate, to refute and to take questions from the audience. I am willing to do that, in fact, I ask that that be done." 9 & MARY! LATE AGAIN Peter, Paul & Mary WS 1751 WARNER BROS. - SEVEN ARTS, RECORDS INC. A group of ten. SSOC students will help publicize the gathering at the field office of SSOC in Durham Sunday. In an interview after the meeting, Austell said that group discussion first caused confusion, but when the group split up, then more specific issues could be studied. "Worst of all," the 71-year-old Southerner said, flailing both arms in the air, "prolonged debate on this issue and the things that will be said, the facts that will be discussed, the records that will be exhumed, will further impair public confidence in the Supreme Court. This nomination should be withdrawn." He paused to sip from a glass of milk and said his speech was "just a preliminary argument personal pride, stubborness and official arrogance should give way to the public interest." Sen. This campus chapter of SSOC will reach a stage of more direction, structure, and leadership later, Austell says. There are already chapters of SSOC in schools covering all but two of the Southern states. SSOC was begun in 1964, chiefly as a civil rights organization. In later years, it took on the qualities of an antiwar and antidraft movement. More recently, it has focused its concern on the student in the University. Austell indicates that there is a general split in SSQC according to issues First, there is the more specific group of student concern, which protests the lack of power and exploitation in students' lives. A second, more general group is concerned over larger political issues, such as the war and the draft. from page 1) R-S.C, in a statement, hailed Dirksen's reversal, saying he knew Dirksen ultimately would join the majority of Republicans in opposing the nomination itself, In a statement, Thurmond called on Johnson to withdraw the nomination. "It is futile to keep Congress in session in an effort to ram down the throats of the members of the Senate something they will not accept," he said. Sen. Clifford P. Hansen, R-Wyo., went further. He suggested that Fortas himself should not only ' allow the nomination to be withdrawn but should resign from the Supreme Court. UNC vs. SOUTH CAROLINA -- " ...
