Cathey Continued from page one weeks and months. With the continuation of Project Hinton and the organization of coeducational dormitories, the new department is almost a necessity. Dr. C. O. Cathey, dean of student affairs, said the new department should eliminate much of the red tape and bring about better cooperation. Commenting on Cansler's appointment, Cathey said it is "impossible to be as informed as I need to be, and this new post will permit DeanCanslertooperate through this office in other areas." Cathey said he is pleased with the new staff. "Fred Schroeder is young enough to do a very effective job as dean of men." In listing the duties of his office, Kepner admitted there is some overlap with the offices of the dean of men and the dean of women. He said, however, he did not consider their efforts counterproductive. Theofficesofdeanofmen and director of residence life are concerned, for example, with the Men's Residence Council. But the dean of men is more concerned with the judicial brance while the director of residence life concerns itself with the executive branch. "It would beapoorpolicy to operate completely independent," Kepner said. Working with Kepner are two assistant directors, Mrs. Jane L. Poller for women and Fred M. Culbreth II for men. JamesE.
