The Tar Heel set irec our Thursday, August 5, 1971 UNC D tor UNC News Bureau Robert T. Allen of Boone will direct the North Carolina Chamber Singers on a concert-study tour of Europe Sept. 7-Dec. 22. The UNC student musicians from both the Chapel I fill and Greensboro campuses will perform over 50 concerts in England, Sweden, Denmark, Holland, West Germany, Czechoslovakia, Austria, Italy and Switzerland. Allen, formerly of Charlotte, is associated with both campuses as director of the University Chorus at Chapel Hill and as instructor in English i Greensboro. In Chapel Hill he has initiated a series of evensongs featuring the cantatas of J.S. Bach, and has completed studies for the M.M. degree in Choral Art under Dr. Lara Hoggard, Tuesday Evening Series Piano trio to perform here The North Carolina Piano Trio of North Carolina Central University (Durham) will perform at the University Tuesday Evening Series August 10, at 8 p.m. in Hill Hall. Lilian Pruett, piano, Earl Sanders, violin, and Mary Gray White, cello, all members of NCCU's music faculty, comprise the trio which was formed in 1967 and performs regularly in the Triangle area. As a special service to public schools in the area, the group frequently gives lecture-performances during the academic year. A native of Yugoslavia, Lilian Pruett received her Ph.D. in musicology and has studied at the Mozarteum Academy, Salzburg, Austria, and at Vassar College. Mary Gray White of Rochester, N.Y., also holds the Ph.D. in musicology from UNC, and has studied at Manhattan -School of Music. Allen is the son of Mr. and Mrs. R.T. Alien Jr. of Boone. Allen is assistant to the president of Appalachian State University. Allen has also served for three years as choirmaster at the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Greensboro. In addition to their concert engagements, Allen and the Carolina Chamber Singers will participate in North Carolina at Blowing Rock, Charlotte, Winston-Salem, Greensboro and Chapel Hill. UNC's Department of Music at Chapel Hill and the Extension Division are sponsoring the tour. Allen is vigorously conducting a campaign to raise funds in the state for the European tour and is receiving cooperation from several private sources, corporations, Jaycees and other civic groups.
