"'ictoi i;i Turner without an umbrella, but aKo caught
her new bicycle without braking power.
Miss Turner. K ol Cobb Dormitory, was speeding
to her room to pick up an umbrella during I uesday's
di)v.npiir when her bike brakes failed, causing her to
crash into a small wall behind Phillips Hall.
'I squeezed the brakes, but since they were wet.
they didn't hold well enough to stop the bike said
M iss Turner.
I'pon hitting the wall, the bicycle went over and
Miss Turner followed, landing on her back. She
sustained minor cuts, bruises and scrapes.
Miss Turner said someone called an ambulance as
she was somewhat daed from her landing. She
praised the efforts of main of the onlookers who
tried to comfort her.
"Many people held their umbrellas over me until
the ambulance arrived. Someone even picked up my
books and carried them to my room." she said.
Miss Turner, a sophomore from Charlotte, was
released from the emergency room of N.C. Memorial
Hospital shortly after she entered at 2:12 p.m.
