The Daily Tar Hel News in brief o implement course evaluation niver 1 .J V Thursday, April 27. 1972 The Chancellor's Committee on Instructional Personnel recently passed a resolution providing for course evaluations by students for the 1972-1973 academic year, according to Provost J. Charles Morrow. Morrow said the University will order educational testing materials from the l.ducational Testing Service in Princeton. New Jersey, and determine their effectiveness and appropriateness in providing course evaluations. The form, with which, students will make their evaluations, of courses, teachers and materials, is called the Student Instructional Report. Morrow indicated plans concerning the implementation of the course evaluations are experimental and tentative, subject to the cost of individual forms. Tom Pace, coeditor of a recent course evaluation booklet compiled from a study made by Zeta Beta Tau and Pi Beta Phi last semester, said he definitely favored the action of the committee in implementing some kind of course evaluation procedure although he doubted the serviceability of the individual form. The evaluation provided general information from the professor and student evaluations. Dr. John Schutz, chairman of the faculty Committee on Undergraduate Degree Requirements, also indicated his committee report will offer some recommendations for regular course evaluations by the faculty. According to the U.S. Senate subcommittee on refugees, about one-third of the population of South Vietnam has been made refugees since 1964. One striker said it is important to realize that the flight of these people from their ancestral villages is not a mere accident of war. It is part of a deliberate U.S. policy, he said. The group feels the policy of Saigon and Washington illustrates '"both the brutality and the absurdity of this war."
