The Glee Club was one of 1 2 groups selected to sing at the convention. "On the basis of this selection," Porco said, "I would say that the UNC Men's Glee Club is considered one of the best in the country." . The Glee Club has also been selected to sing at the Southern Regional Convention of the Music Educators National Conference (MENC) May 4 in Norfolk, Va. Again, the Glee Club is one of 12 groups scheduled to sing at the convention. Besides the concert at the ACDA Auditions today for 'Indians9 The Carolina Playmakers will hold auditions for its first production of the spring semester, "Indians," today at 4 and 7:30 p.m. in Graham Memorial Lounge. Arthur Kopit's play has speaking parts for 24 men and 3 women. The first hour of each tryout period will be devoted to women only. Men's auditions will follow immediately. Auditionees should bring a small recent photograph. "Indians" will be presented Feb. 13-18 at 8 p.m. nightly .in Graham Memorial . .oange Theatre. schools and colleges in St. Louis, Kansas City, Columbia, and Springfield, Mo. for 1 0 days. Porco said that he hopes to receive financial support in the form of gifts from alumni, from the student government, and the students themselves to cover the cost of lodging and travel. The Glee Club members will buy their own meals whenever necessary. The Glee Club consists of forty men, the majority non-music majors, who perform approximately 25 to 30 times per year. This spring they are scheduled to perform on Feb. 17 at the North Carolina Collegiate Choral Festival at convention, the Glee Club will tour high Catawba College, on Mar. 2 at a choral workshop at Durham High School, on April 17, for the Tuesday Evening Series here in Hill Hall, and on April 27, in Wilmington, N.C. Robert Porco, the director, received his undergraduate and Master's degree in music at Ohio State University and his Doctor's degree at UNC. Besides teaching, Porco directs the Opera Theatre on campus and conducts the Durham Civic Choral Society.
