The Students International Meditation
Society, the second largest student
organization, on campus will begin their
spring courses Wednesday at 8 p.m. in
room 215 of the Student Union.
The Society will teach a course of
seven meetings on transcendental
meditation. There are 250 meditators on
campus who meditate for 40 minutes
each day for "total relaxation".
The group claims that a total
change will come about in the meditators
immediately, including more relaxed
lifestyle and more energy. . "Problems

Graham Marlette will play Wild Bill

Senators Logan, Dawes and Morgan,
respectively.
"Indians" will be presented at 8, Feb.

embodies a Wild West Show with humor
and timely scenes about America's
inhumane treatment of the real
Americans.

sem to fall away" said Susan Watterson,
a 1969 graduate of Carolina who now
teaches some of the courses.
The cost of the course is S45 for
students and $75 for working adults. The
teachers claim the course is completely
' natural and requires no effort on the part
of the students.
"We transcend to the source of
thought. We think vertically. We have
made meditation a science."
( The second introductory lecture will
be held on Friday, at 8 in room 215 of
, the Student Union. The teachers will also
speak on Thursday at the school of public
health to explain the method on a more
scientific level. The meeting is also at 8 in
room 218; it is free and open to the
public.
A course in the science of creative
intelligence, the theoretical thinking
behind transcendental meditation, had
their introductory meeting last night.
This course costs $125 for meditators and
$150 for non-meditators. The course is
two nights a week for a period of 18
t weeks with a series of tapes by the
Mararishi Mahesh Yogi, the originator of
the courses and the science of creative
intelligence.
The group claims that the first 10
minutes of meditation has more deep rest
than 8 hours of sleep and that the
technique is a way to deep rest.
For more information contact one of
the four teachers at Carolina: for the
transcendental meditation course, Ken
and Tina Leavitt at 929-2633; for the
science of creative thinking, Susan
Watterson or Seven Promises at
929-9777.
