Wednesday February 28 in Memorial Hall as part of the Carolina Forum and the Curriculum in Peace, War, Defense spring schedule. Gary Miller B. B. Kin Jackson's Congressional activity, matched by few members, consists of chairman of the Senate Interior and Insular Affairs Committee, chairman of the subcommittee on National Security and Internationa Operations and chairman of the special subcommittee to monitor the SALT talks. He is also a member of the Joint C7 best What do you say about a forty-three year old man who calls his guitar Lucille? The man who showed rock musicians the likes of Eric Clapton and Mike Bloomfield, just to name two of the thousands he has influenced, what end of an electric guitar to play. Leon Russell wrote a song for him ("Hummingbird")- Leon and Carole King played piano for him on "Indianbla Mississippi Seeds His London sessions album included rockers Ringo Starr, Jim Keltner, Jim Gordon, Klaus Voorman, Bobby Keys and Jerry Ragovoy. Bill Szymczyk was his producer long before he got involved with the James Gang's Yer Album. After touring with the Stones, Ralph Gleason said, "Thousands of young people came to the Rolling Stones concert and discovered B.B. King." The name B.B. King is a legend. Billed as the best blues singer and guitarist, B.B. has been hard at work proving that title since he got his first guitar at the age of ten. ABC Records has released an album entitled "The Best of B.B. King" (ABCX-767). The title is a misnomer. The record may contain the best of B.B. King between the years 1969 and 1971 , but to say that it is the best of B.B. king is like trying to decide what is the best of the Beatles. The album does consist of some of the best electric blues on record: 'Hummingbird," "Caldonia," "Why I Sing The Blues," "The Thrill is Gone," "Ain't Nobody Home" and "How Blue Can You Get." Most of the songs are taken from four albums: "Completely Well," "Live at Cook County Jail," "Indianola Mississippi Seeds," and "B.B. King in London." The cuts have been remixed so they can be heard in quad, at no extra price. Everybody wanta know why I sing the blues Everybody wanta know why I sing the blues Wella I been around for a long time And I've paid my dues. "Why I Sing the Blues The talent of B.B. Jackson is the author of many conservation bills, including the landmark National Environmental Policy Act and several national park acts. He has received four national conservation awards since 1969 for his work, including the John Muir Award of the Sierra Club. His subcommittee on National Security and International Operations has conducted some pioneering inquires on the role of the National Security Council, State and Defense Departments and NATO. Presently Jackson is working on a Youth Conservation Corps Act to provide opportunities for children to get off the streets in the summers and participate in conservation work in national forests and parks. His National Land Use Policy. Act, introduced in January 1970 to help state and local governments improve planning for environmental, recreational and industrial use of land, has been termed one of the most fir-reaching measures in . Congress. Jackson gained rational prominence for his part in challenging Sen. Joseph McCarthy and for his part in defeating the efforts to retire Capt. Hyman Rickover in the 1950s. He was the red men t of the Legislator of the Year Award in 1969, given by the Veterans of Foreign Wars for outstanding service to the nation. Jackson .was re-elected to his fourth term in 1970 with 83.9 per cent of the vote, a national high for ill the two-party races for senator or governor that year.
