Variation May, 1973 ' . mi.: 5 This is All-American Carolina tennis star Freddie McNair. McNair, a senior, led the Tar Heels to another outstanding season and another Atlantic Coast Conference championship. Perhaps the greatest player in the history of the ACC, McNair set Carolina records for singles and doubles victories and dominated ACC foes for four years. The season is still not over for him, though, as the Tar Heels are preparing for the NCAA national tennis tournament in June. Carolina was ranked sixth in the nation as we went to pressand a national championship is possible. The Carolina soccer team enjoyed an exceptional season in the fall of 1972. Led by returning lettermen Danny Ariail, Steve Dawson, Anson Dorrance, Bill Isherwood and David Taylor (shown above), the Tar Heels kicked their way to j another winning season. However, an j ACC championship for the Heels was I prevented by the Clemson Tigers, one of f the nation's best teams: The Tar Heels highlighted the year with victories over rivals Duke and N.C.
