on sale today at the Carolina Union
"Manassas," Stills' album of last
summer, is a phenomenon. Structured
about a core of pure country and rock V
roll, "Manassas" benefits from the
technical mastery of Dallas Taylor and
Chris Hillman. The album features
unaffected lyrics accompanied by
beautiful melodies, expert musicianship
and sensitive production values.
"Manassas" encompasses Stills two
worlds on both sides of the Atlantic
(Colorado and England); tributes to his
musical beginnings; the joys and woes of
past relationships; and a dynamic new
direction for Stills and company.
Pianist Lorin Hollander performs
under the auspices of the Chapel Hill
Concert Series at 8 p.m. March 25 in
Memorial Hall. Tickets are on sale at the
Carolina Union Information Desk.
"Lorin Hollander has all sorts off
virtuoso equipment to spare, but his
special territory is color," writes Clive
Barnes in the New York Times. "His
palette is unusually, wide and his tone
ranges from brash and thundering to the.
smallest crystalline whisper. His legato is
pearly and shining and his staccato as
sharp as the crack of a whip."
Les Ballets Africains
Clive Barnes calls Les Ballets Africains
"the most distinguished and sophisticated
of all African dance companies." Les
Ballets Africains comes to Chapel Hill at
8 p.m. Wednesday in Memorial Hall.
The 45 singers, dancers and musicians
who compose inis entertainment troupe
are carefully chosen from the 96 regional
dance groups of the Republic of Guinea.
Their ensemble performance of elegance
and abandon exposes the legend, the
history and the pageantry that is Africa.
The national Ballet of Washington

March 16-18 at Reynolds Coliseum on
the N.C. State campus. The Friends of
the College sponsors the appearance.

Israeli mime Zwi Kanar will perform at

Kanar's stay in the infamous
Buchenwald concentration camp, his
journey to a displaced person's camp in
Cyprus, his service in the armed forces in
the Israelian Independence War, and
many other trials have given Kanar a rare
insight into human character.
A former student of Marcel Marceau,
Kanar incorporates such comedy in
numbers as "Memories of Charlie
"Cries and Whispers." A study erf human
