Ruth and June, better known as the Pointer Sisters., bring their campy clothes and unique singing style to Carmichael Wednesday. March 27. The sisters began singing together in the West Oakland. Calif.. Church of God. Gospel hymns as well as the blues of B.B. King and Bessie Smith influenced them. Their songs range from hard driving soul to cool bebop and scat. S.C.. native, received the Bronze medal in the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition in 1969. but his music includes jazz, pop and ragtime as well as classical and semi-classical music. On Monday, March 4. the French performer Marcel Marceau will appear in Memorial Hall.
