S. l tltikil V tt fc w ue reauest decision set JL WASHINGTON Special Watergate Prosecutor Leon Jaworski said Sunday the White House has promised to tell him today whether it will grant his request for additional tapes and documents. The decision would be the President's first indication of what he meant when he told Congress last Wednesday night that Jaworski had been provided "all the material that he needs to conclude his investigations." "We have talked with White House counsel, and they have talked with me and I was advised on Friday that on Monday there would be a final decision." Jaworski said. Astronauts take walk HOUSTON The Skylab 3 astronauts spacewalked Sunday for the final time in their nearly-completed endurance voyage to retrieve precious pictures of the sun and Comet Kohoutek. Gerald P. Carr and Edward G. Gibson, protected by .their bulky pressurized spacesuits. floated out of the spacelab's hatch at 1 1 : 1 9 a. m. ( EDT) for a more than four hour walk. William R. Pogue stayed Inside to control the 113-foot station. It was the fourth spacewalk for the pilots who are to splash down Friday after 84 days in orbit - longer than any men before. "We've sure got a pretty country," said mission commander Carr. rubbernecking like a tourist from 270 miles high. "There sure is a lot of land down there. Oh well, back to the salt mines." Mission Control aked the pilots to retrieve six cassettes of film from the solar telescopes, conduct an experiment to check for particles floating outside Skylab, and, photograph the . earth's upper atmosphere. Saxbe Sunday called on the 50 governors and law enforcement agencies to take any steps necessary to bring an end to the strike by independent truck drivers. Saxbe, on his first visit home since assuming the cabinet post, asked the governors, city and county authorities "to move before we have hundreds killed on our highways. "If the governors haven't the guts to face up to the situation, it will get worse. Saxbc said. "State authorities, sheriff departments, city police, everybody has a stake in this." Saxbe said the current owner-operator truck shutdown was not following any The special prosecutor did not detail the material he requested. "I can go only so far as to say that they are documents and some also are in the nature of tapes," he said. He was interviewed on ABCs "Issues and Answers. Asked whether he- would attempt to subpoena the documents if the White House denies his request, Jaworski said he had "other things to consider, too." "For instance, the matter of when the indictments will be returned," he said, "the matter of how much delay is involved." Jaworski said he expects the Watergate grand jury to return the indictments before the end of this month. Nixon said Wednesday in his State of the Union address that "one year of Watergate is enough" and he had provided Jaworski "a great deal" of material. "I believe that I have provided all the material that he needs to conclude his investigations," he added. Jaworski repeated an earlier statement that he could not turn over grand jury information to the House Judiciary Committee, which is studying possible grounds for impeachment of Nixon, because he was obligated to keep such information and evidence secret. But he did not rule out the chance the committee could receive information if it were kept secret. He said it was his "obligation to contest" in court any House subpoena for evidence from the grand jury or his office. But if promises were made by the committee to keep the evidence secret, "it would be of considerable help to me if that assurance were given." Jaworski added that this possibility "has not been discussed because they the committee haven't apparently decided 320 COST: FROM taxes. " of ski equipment. "There is no more cheap gas," Saxbc said, "And here we have a leaderless group trying through terror and intimidation to take over the movement of trucks in America in an attempt to fight off this fact of life. "Most of the truckers are basically reasonable men, Saxbe said. "When statements are made, however, about bringing this country to its knees, it's time to move. "It appears that truckers want a confrontation, and they're going to get it. If they want to go to the penitentiary, we'll give them that opportunity." he continued. In Washington on Sunday. Shapp warned themselves just how the hearings will bo conducted." Ruling out submission of grand jury evidence to the House at the present time, Jaworski said the White House had all the material the committee "would be interested in." He said although the prosecutor's office was "bound by the rules of law" not to release such information "the White House can take its own position" if subpoenaed. Jaworski also said: He had not asked the White House to refrain from making public summaries of tapes and documents, but"l must say if some evidence were made public by the White House it could conceivably affect the fairness of the trial of those people who are expected to be indicted." Such a request was made of the Senate Watergate Committee. Gromyko comes to U.S.. WASHINGTON Soviet Foreign Minister Andrei A. Gromyko Sunday arrived from Cuba to talk to President Nixon on global problems ranging from arms control to the Middle East peace talks and reconciliation with Havana. No specifics were given on the scope of the White House talks. . Presidential Press Secretary Ronald L. Ziegler said only that the discussions would deal with "Soviet American relations" and matters of international concern. But because Gromkyo was coming directly from Havana, there was speculation that high on the agenda would be a review of relations between Cuba and the United States which broke off in January, 1961. There were indications that Washington and Havana., are , ready to ; bury their differences, particularly in view of a Feb. 21- NEW YORK Wi - 12 NIGHTS ILitzbuhel. Ford says release proof of innocence WASHINGTON Vice President Gerald R. Ford said Sunday the White House should release "as quickly as possible" any evidence that it reportedly has proving President Nixon had no knowledge of the Watergate cover-up before last March 21. Ford also said that the House Judiciary Committee, which is charged with conducting an investigation of possible impeachment offenses against the President, should be granted subpoena powers by the full House. But he added that the panel has "no right to go on a fishing expedition" when it does request White House tapes and documents. ...To let them go through all of the files of the White House or any of the executive branches I think is unreasonable," he said. "I think there would have to be a logical explanation by the committee for the seeking of any individual documents." Thomas H. Moorer's Pentagon office for 15 months, the New York Times said Sunday in a report that quoted "closely involved sources." The Times report by Seymour M. Hersh in effect challenged the explanations of administration officials that the spying was the random work of "overzealous" military liaison men that occurred in 1971 and provided only trivial information.
