The symposium, "East Asia: Perspectives and Projections," will examine religion, politics, economics, medicine, music, art and poetry. Featured speakers include Pulitzer Prize winner David Halberstam, author of the best best-selling book The Best and the Brightest, concerning United States involvement in Vietnam and Frances Fitzgerald, author of Fire in the Lake. Other speakers include Ross Terrill, CBS news commentator d'iring President Nixon's trip to China and Edwin Reisehauer, former ambassador to Japan. The Symposium is a bi-annual project, alternating each year with the Fine Arts Festival. The public is admitted free to all programs except the Martial Arts Exhibition and the Peking Opera.
