Day for Night Francois Truffaut's love
letter to movie-making is beautiful,
touching, funny, wonderful, marvelous, etc.
An exhilarating experience, not to be
missed. CM
The Sting Con comedy is itself a con
with some pretty moldy material being
turned into excellent entertainment by some
talented hands. It's too big and tends to
drown in overproduction, but it's a sure fire
audience pleaser. CH, D. R
Take the Money and Run Woody
Allen's first film is a brilliant take-off on
documentaries, among other things, and
very, very funny. But hasn't it been shown
enough? CH
The Three Musketeers Richard Lester's
exuberant and very funny version of the
novel. Probably the first film to be successful
at both debunking and reveling in foolish
heroics. Lester's best, most disciplined film,
almost certain to become known as an
entertainment classic D, R
Man On A Swing Murder mystery
involving a clairvoyant. Many people will
not like Frank Perry's style of steady
hysteria, but 1 found this an altogether
remarkable film, truly chilling and
disturbing with implications that linger in
the mind. R
Save the Tiger Jack Lemmon certainly
didn't deserve the Oscar over his
competition, but it does help to revive this

unjustly neglected film. An exceptionally
well written and acted story of a man living
in the past trying to cope with the present.
R
The Exorcist William Friedkin brings to
this devil film the same slam-bang direction
he brought to The French Connection. Some
of it is effective at the moment, but the film as
a whole is manipulative trash. Disgusting in
more ways than one. D, R
Conrack Martin Ritt is a fine director of
actors, and in this story of at teacher among
poverty he provides many beautiful and
touching moments. But the film as a whole is
an embarrassing and self-congratulatory
collection of syrupy, liberal sentiments. R
