Ervin will deliver a series of law and political science lectures this week as a William Rand Kenan, Jr. Visiting Professor. Ervin, a 1917 graduate of UNC, retired from 20 years in the VS. Senate last December. A well known constitutional law expert, he attained national attention as chairman of the Senate Select Committee on Presidential 'Campaign Activities in the Watergate investigations. The 78-year-old Ervin will teach classes and a seminar from Tuesday to Saturday in constitutional law, professional responsibility, legal evidence and criminal law and procedure at the law school. Wednesday he will give an 1 1 a.m. lecture for Political Science 80, "The President, Congress and Public Policy." At 1 1 a.m. Friday he will teach Political Science 72, "Public Policy Analysis." Friday night Ervin will address the Friends of the Library at the Carolina Inn, where he will officially donate his personal papers to the Southern Historical Collection. The papers will' be stored at Wilson Library. Saturday morning Ervin will speak at the regional convention of the Society of Professional Journalists Sigma Delta Chi to be held at the Carolina Inn. Tickets will be sold to the public and those interested should contact Steve Thornburg, president of the Society of Professional Journalists. APO Carnival The 25th annual Campus Chest Drive sponsored by the Alpha Phi Omega (APO) service fraternity begins at 8 p.m. on Thursday, April 3 in Great Hall with the Campus Chest Auction. The drive will also feature a Sock Hop and the APO Carnival. A baseball signed by Catfish Hunter, a 10-speed bike, a boa constrictor and stationery autographed by Liza Minelli are among the hJms to be auctioned. The Sock Hop, to be held at 8 p,m. Thursday April 3 in the Great HalL win feature Steve the . Dream. A costume contest, to be judged by "The Dream," and a dance contest, to be judged by professors Gerald links and James Leut?c, highlight the evening. The drive will end with the APO Carnival, to be held at 6 p.m., Thursday, April 17 in Carmichaei Auditorium. All proceeds from the auction, sock hop and carnival will go to local and state agencies and charities. Symposium topic The Symposium Interim Committee chose "The Future of America: Problems and Potentials" as the topic for the 1976 Carolina Symposium at its meeting last Thursday night. The topic, proposed by Don Baer and Robert Pharr, completed a week of study by the committee, The selected topic will examine long-range possibilities for the country's future in six categories: science and technology, social needs, the environment, government and politics, man's socialization and the arts. Pharr and Baer proposed a program of speakers, panel discussions, displays and entertainment with continuing development of the theme throughout the spring semester. In their written proposal, they said a well known speaker would start the examination of each of the six categories. They said authors Alvin "Toffler and Charles Reich and anthropoligist Margaret Mead might serve as opening speakers for the "Socialization of Man" section. The committee said a sign-up sheet for interviews for chairman of the symposium will be available at the Union desk. Interviews will be held beginning 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.
