Charlie Carr, UNC offensive end coach, UNC stickmen blast State 19-4 RALEIGH North Carolina's lacrosse team tuned up for Saturday's test at Washington and Lee by blasting N.C. State 19-4 Wednesday. The Tar Heels, however, undaunted by a 2-7 record and brisk March wind, dispelled their coach's fears by scoring four runs on as many hits in their home opener Wednesday at Boshamer Stadium, a 4-1 win over Western Carolina. UNC is now 3-7. Carolina hit the Catamounts with three runs in the first inning and added an insurance tally in the seventh after Western had scored in the top of the seventh. Clay Johnson went five innings and team for the regional meet March 13 in Memphis, where it finished third out of 12 teams representing five state. Teresa Trice finished second in the floor exercise at region, and her 8.75 score narrowly missed the 9 point requirement to qualify for the national meet. Joan Healy finished fourth on the balance beam with an 8.45 score. Three UNC wrestlers were defeated in their matches in the NCAA Championships March 5-7 in Tucson, Arizona.
