14 The Tar Heel June 3, 1976 sports shorts Preyer-Cloaninger wins doubles Jane Preyer and Nina Cloaninger won the doubles title over Duke's Cindy Johnson and Erin Wolf 2-6, 6-3, 6-2 in the A1AW Region II Tennis Championships in Chattanooga, Tenn., last weekend. Susie Black advanced to the third round in singles. Preyer finished fifth overall in singles and lost to Cindy Brinker of Virginia 7-5, 6 3. Cloaninger lost to Brinker in three sets. Preyer, Cloaninger and Black will participate in the AIAW National Championships at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City June 14. The UNC men's golf team finished third in a field of 25 teams, several of which were ranked among the top 20 in the nation, in the Southern Intercollegiate Golf Tournament at Athens, Ga. UNC has not been selected to participate in the NCAA Championships in Alberquerque, New Mexico, next weekend, and UNC Coach Mike McLeod thinks that his team's good finish will prove to the selection committee that they were wrong. "It was a good way to wind up the season," McLeod said. Chip Beck of Georgia won individual honors in the tournament with a three-round score of 209. Freshman Kevin King was the leader for UNC with a three-round score of 217. King finished seventh in the tournament.
