The play is about - r rrf Women inmates perform An out-of-the-ordinary production of Beauty and the Beast, sponsored by Pocket Theatre, comes to Durham at 3 p.m. on Sunday. Souls from Within, a drama workshop of inmates from the North Carolina Correctional Center for Women will give the performance. Rebecca Ranson, who directs the show was hired by the North Carolina Arts Council last January to work in the Department of Correction. After working in several North Carolina prisons, Ranson decided to set up one intensive drama program in the North Carolina Correctional Center in Raleigh, the State's only women's prison. Few of their plays have been performed outside the prison system. Coke Airiel, a director and co-founder of Pocket Theatre, said, "We were quite frankly surprised that we got permission to bring the prisoners out." Souls from Within hopes to tour their production to various parts of North Carolina. Ranson considers the inmates' presentation a public service.
