ABC has not yet decided what use it would make of such film. Richard S. Salant, president of CBS News, said that "while we contend we have the right to be present if the rest of the press is, we have no intention of using any film we might shoot at or about the time of the execution and at most we would put it in our library for possible future use far in the future as part of history." A CBS News spokesperson added, "If the print press has access to an execution, we believe we have the same rights. But you will not see it on the Evening News with Walter Cronkite." NBC's position was essentially the same. Both networks noted the possibility of including execution footage some time in the future in a documentary on capital punishment. Marks Landsman, director of editorial assignments at NBC, noted that John Chancellor had already said on the air that his evening news program would not include execution footage and added, "We would not want any on-the-air use." William Sheehan, president of ABC News, said, "Of course, we would cover Writers Wanted Students interested in writing features or columns for the Daily Tar Heel should attend a meeting on Monday, Jan. 17, at 7 p.m. in the DTH offices. To me, personally, the idea is repulsive, but I would not ruie out the possibility that we would show pictures on a news broadcast. I am coming around to a strong recommendation against it, but 1 prefer to make that decision when we are sure there is going to be an execution that we will be allowed to cover." r r I B r THE RUGBY CLUB PRESENTS THE GREATEST DOUBLE FEATURE OF THE YEAR ANARCHY!
