Byrd, but the school does have a special admissions program adopted by the faculty. "It's geared to anyone culturally deprived," Byrd says. "Because of their background, or circumstances or handicaps, some may have the potential for law school beyond what the objective criteria show." This discretionary program provides admittance to approximately 20 students of an entering class of 235. The program is not discriminatory, he says, but he admits that if all applicants were considered regardless of race, not very many blacks would get in.
