His eye caught a glint of metal down the road and he watched it grow larger through the shimmer of heat over the rough edge of asphalt Five gleaming wheeled machines moved along silently except for a constant hum from the tires and the sound of a chain moving over sprockets. The riders were talking back and forth as they rode through the countryside. The shining rims of the narrow tires loomed larger and larger for the turtle and then passed in a whirl of spinning wheels and pumping legs. See page 10.
