He was only in the "WHY DO THE HEATHEN RAGE? Psalms 2:1 and Acts 4:25 "AND THE WORLD PASSETH AWAY, AND THE LUST THEREOF: BUT HE THAT DOETH THE WILL OF GOD ABIDETH FOREVER." 1st John 2:17. Hear the Word of The Lord found In Luke 1 3:23: "Then said one unto Him (Jesus), Lord, are there few that be saved? And He said unto them, "STRIVE TO ENTER IN AT THE STRAIT GATE: FOR MANY, I SAY UNTO YOU, WILL SEEK TO ENTER IN, AND SHALL NOT BE ABLE. WHEN ONCE THE MASTER OF THE HOUSE IS RISEN UP, AND HATH SHUT TO THE DOOR, AND YE BEGIN TO STAND WITHOUT, AND TO KNOCK AT THE DOOR, SAYING, LORD, LORD, OPEN UNTO US: AND HE SHALL ANSWER AND SAY UNTO YOU, I KNOW YE NOT WHENCE YE ARE: THEN YE SHALL BEGIN TO SAY, WE HAVE EATEN AND DRUNK IN THY PRESENCE, AND THOU HAST TAUGHT IN OUR STREETS. BUT HE SHALL SAY, I TELL YOU, I KNOW YE NOT WHENCE YE ARE: DEPART FROM ME, ALL YE WORKERS OF INIQUITY. THERE SHALL BE WEEPING AND GNASHING OF TEETH, WHEN YE SHALL SEE ABRAHAM AND ISAAC, AND JACOB, AND ALL THE PROPHETS, IN THE KINGDOM OF GOD, AND YOU YOURSELVES THRUST OUT. AND THEY SHALL COME FROM THE EAST, AND FROMTHE WEST, AND FROM THE SOUTH, AND FROM THE NORTH, AND SHALL SIT DOWN IN THE KINGDOM OF GOD. AND, BEHOLD, THERE ARE LAST WHICH SHALL BE FIRST, AND THERE ARE FIRST WHICH SHALL BE LAST." (I hope to come In from the west: "When the saints go marching In, Lord, I want to be In that number") A few years back it was often that such passages of Scrip ture as fust quoted were the subject of preachers' and evangelists' sermons. It appears now that most of them "don't do that any more." What Is more important In this life than making your "calling and election sure" for eternity? The Apostle Peter said as long as he was living he thought It important to stir up his brethren to this end 2nd Peter 1:10, etc. In recent years have often heard preachers and evangelists who seemed to be greatly concerned about get ting church folk to feel and believe they were saved. Maybe they are not in view of the passage quoted above from Luke, and In view of the lives and conduct of many. This passage from Luke does not contradict Romans 6:35: "Who shall separate us from Christ, etc." Rather, It throws light on the true Christian who cannot be separated. Nor does this pas sage contradict Epheslans 2:8,9: "For by Grace are ya saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: It Is the gift of God; not of works, lest any man should boast." Rather, It magnifies the Grace of God In producing a fruitful falthl Here is the testimony of a man who says he shifted the res ponsibility for his salvation on the shoulders of the Almighty Himself. He says he believed God's Word, that at the end of this life It was either Heaven or Hell for him: at one end of the road there was Heaven offering eternal good and blessing; but at the other end there was Hell offering the horrors of the eternal curse of God as described In The Bible. However, he never seemed able to definitely make the choice, turn about and face towards heaven, and spend his life in time seeking to do the Will of God! As he thought, struggled, and faced the fact of hell at the end of a life spent In self-seeking, he came across the following passage In Luke 14:23: "AND THE LORD SAID UNTO THE SERVANT: GO OUT INTO THE HIGHWAYS AND HEDGES, AND 'COMPEL' THEM TO COME IN, THAT MY HOUSE MAY BE FILLED." He said he found himself plenty willing to ask The Lord to "COMPEL HIM" to turn away from hell and eternal destruction, even If He had to use sickness, pain, and suffering Heaven Is cheap at any costl Later this man testified that The Lord had to use none of these terrible things to "compel him," but rather gently led him to "turn about and face towards Heaven," and find his greatest pleasure in "striving to enter In at the strait gate." Turn your face towards Heaven. Don't look back. Use the means of Grace: Search the Scriptures, they testify of The Lord Jesus Christ. Pray, and faint not. Honor God on His Day consider Isaiah 58:13, 14, on how to keep the Sabbath, and not the ideas and notions that savor not of God, but of men. Honor God's House, the dedicated place of worship. Man looks at the outward appearance, but God looks at the heart - 1st Samuel 16:7. "STRIVE TO ENTER IN AT THE STRAIT GATE," continue faithful in welldoing, and In due season you will meet The Lord Himself in the Way, and come to rejoice in His Salvation and Presence: "IN THY PRESENCE IS FULNESS OF JOY, AND AT THY RIGHT HAND THERE ARE PLEASURES FOREVERMOREI" Psalm 16:11. "THE WORLD PASSETH AWAY, AND THE LUST THEREOF: BUT HE THAT DOETH THE WILL OF GOD ABIDETH FOREVER." 1st John 2:17. P. O. LEXINGTON. Ky. It was a miracle that Clyde Christensen got to play in the Carolina-Kentucky football game Saturday. That's not an insult, but what Christensen himself said about the seven plays he quarterbacked for Carolina against the Wildcats. Christensen has very deep religious beliefs which pervade his conversations; beliefs which he genuinely relies upon to help him make it. and to which he gives credit for getting a chance to play. Christensen. a junior, is a third-string quarterback, one of those guys who rarely sees action especially against a good team like Kentucky unless the players ahead of him on the depth chart get hurt. But Saturday, neither starter Matt Kupec nor P. J. Gay could get the Carolina offense rolling, so the call went to the bench for Christensen. "1 wasn't loose. I hadn't warmed up or taken a practice snap from the center or thrown a couple of passes. I had to tie my shoes," Christensen said as he relaxed after the game. "They said "Get in there Clyde.' " Christensen went into the game at a critical time. It was the beginning of the fourth quarter and Carolina trailed 3-0. The team needed to score. On his very first play at quarterback for Carolina, Christensen tucked the ball in and 2:35 4:50 7:05 9:20 "Scene after scene is unforgettable." I hat's enough to gel a team pretty excited. "It was supposed to be a control-type pass." he said. "But all the receivers were covered, and I cut behind the back, and there was some good running room. "Two things entered my mind when I went into the game. First, I'd been praying to get a chance to play. I'd worked hard in preseason. I trusted the Lord would give me a chance to play." "The second tning I thought was how unprepared I was. I hadn't taken a snap from center or thrown the ball. I was mentally pretty ready but not physically. I said to the Lord. 'You're giving me a chance, all l can do is hustle.' " The players in the Carolina huddle looked like they were behind 14-0 rather than 3-0, Christensen said, and they looked tired. "I told them I thought we could get something going, and I think wedid,"hesaid with a little laugh. He didn't last long in the game a Kentucky defender plowed into him just after he'd thrown a pass and knocked the wind out of him. But five plays after Christensen was helped off the field. Carolina scored. "I wish l could take credit for it," Christensen said, "but I can't." Christensen had much success as a junior college All-America quarterback at Fresno City Junior College. But last year he packed his bags, left his home in Covina, Calif., and came to Carolina as a transfer. "I thought the time was ripe," he said as he talked about the quarterback situation at Carolina. He said Kupec was coming off a knee injury. Gay was recovering from surgery and Billy PaschaTs eligibility was up. There was a void in the Carolina quarterback spot, and he thought he would be able to fill it. "I liked Carolina. It was where the Lord was leading me." he said. By the time Christensen sat out last year because he transferred. Kupec and Gay had recovered and were ready to play, pushing Christensen toward backstage. "Sometimes it's hard not to get discouraged," he said. "Sometimes I'm impatient. But I've been pullingforMattand P. J. all the way. I want to play more than anything in the world, though. It was a miracle that I got to play today." "I wasn't nervous at all. That's the neat thing about being a Christian. Being a Christian is a growing thing. I'm still learning. I learned a lot today, I'll tell you that.
