Vorld 4766 Business majors want society for their field By MEREDITH CREWS Staff Writer Students will meet today with business school administrators to voice support for the creation of an undergraduate business student society to represent students' interests in the undergraduate business program. The meeting will be held at 3 p.m. in 301 Old Carroll Hall (faculty lounge). Paul Arne, who has worked with administrators on the proposed association, , said Monday that students sought a means of making the administration aware of student opinions after the business school made sweeping changes in the curriculum. "Changes have been made to raise the status of UNC's School of Business Administration." Arne said. "More emphasis and resources have been put into the graduate program to accomplish these goals. "There are good reasons for increasing the status of the school, but we want the faculty to know where students stand in regards to their decisions." Arne said the group will recommend the revamping of the honors program in the School of Business Administration and the development of a more adequate advisory system. "There is virtually no advising program in the business school," Arne said. "A student could go two years in business school without seeing a professor because business students sign their own drop-add forms." Arne said the organization had no administrative backing. At the meeting, administrators will discuss what decisions the group may be able to influence in the next few years and what expectations the faculty has for the group. The proposed agenda for the meeting includes committee discussions on issues such as orientation, advising systems, career planning opportunities and admissions policies. The group will also discuss course evaluations and a proposed newsletter for the organization. "Students will be running the meeting, answering questions and explaining the purpose of the group," he said. "Our purposes will be worked out carefully so our decisions will not dictate future roles of the organization.
