NBC confirmed that the show would go off the air, but a spokesperson for the network said there were never plans for more than five weekly Pryor shows. Louisiana is presently involved in litigation with HEW over its desegregation plan. Or, HEW may decide to take administrative action hearings in which both parties present their case before a hearings officer, probably an HEW official. The case would then go to a review board and HEW Secretary Joseph Califano for a decision. Sanders said the administration's lawyers understood the Civil Rights Act of 1964 to mean that funds would be cut off from individual departments found violating the Civil Rights Act. For example, if a department in the UNC College of Arts and Sciences was found to be in violation, that would in no way affect another department's status nor would it affect any other department on any other of the 15 campuses affected by the plan. But Sanders said that if HEW rejects the desegregation plan, it will try to exert a maximum amount of pressure on the UNC system to comply. MACI-l IME Sept. 29. and at 4 p.m. Friday. Centering- Venturing helps career planning By TENLEY AYERS DTH Contributor So it's your senior year, and you still aren't sure what kind of job you want. Or are you a freshman who can't decide what field to major in? The Career Planning and Placement office may be able to help. Centuring-Venturing (CV, a planning process for creatively muddling through life and work, is a new program designed for the student who is searching for possible career options. Jane Kendall, assistant director of the Career Planning and Placement office and the organizer for the program, says CV is for anyone who wants to learn how to plan a career. The process is not just a "senior year" problem. "We are trying to raise a person's awareness of his own life issues," Kendall explains. The purpose of CV is to help him learn how to organize it. The program is designed for all classes freshmen through graduate students. Kendall describes the process as "an ageless process; what people are doing throughout their lives." The groups are arranged according to the special needs of the students. The specific needs of each person in the group are considered, and possibilities for careers are suggested by the participants. "In Centurying-Venturing, most of the people want a career-oriented group," Kendall says. "We are dividing the groups up according to what planning stages a person is in." MILTON'S . .
