Art exhibition
A colorful new exhibit opens at the Ackland
Museum Sunday: "Color and the Graphic Arts."
The display, a Library of Congress exhibition,
runs through Dec. 4.
The exhibit documents the history of the
development of color and the graphic arts and
displays reproductions of some outstanding
examples of color printing in the collections of the
Library of Congress. Mounted on 66 panels, it is
divided into two sections. The first touches briefly
on what color is and how we see color, the early
history of color exploration and color theories
advancing from Newton and Goethe to the
present. The second part covers "color in use,"
with special emphasis on the many processes of
graphic reproduction. Highlights in the
development of the color camera, color film and
recent innovative techniques in photograph
printing complete this section.
Ackland is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday
through Saturday and 2 to 6 p.m. Sundays. It is
closed Mondays.
