regulation. With four minutes remaining
Zimmerman was replaced in the lineup by
Libby Mathiason to gain the speed and
agility that the Heels needed in overtime.
In the sudden death period, where teams
alternate corners until an offense scores
( before the defense brings the ball outside the
twenty-five yard line). Mathiason rammed a
score in for the Heels, setting up the
speculated rematch with High Point.
In the second game, both teams started
out playing exactly like it was a second game
not a tournament final.
But a goal by Bashi Buba near the end of
the first hall increased the excitement of the
game. Carolina had the momentum, and
High Point was trying to catch up. Minutes
after Buba's goal, teammate Vicki
Greenwood scored after the Panther goalie,
blocked her first attempt, and the Heels went

"outrun, outpass and outhustle" High Point.
Hunter said. "They didn't have a chance.
With each goal we got more and more
excited and determined. Our exuberance
and enthusiasm was so far beyond High
Point's."
Midway in the final half, Mathiason
assisted Greenwood in scoring the Heels'
50th goal of the season and sealed the Heels'
win.
Hunter and the team were elated with the
win, which advanced them to further
competition and gave them revenge over
High Point. Hunter especially praised the
play of Vicki Greenwood and Laurie Ginter.
"Vicki definitely has the best stickwork in
the whole state of North Carolina. She is
unsurpassed." Hunter said. "Laurie Ginter
was very fast, and she gave us lots ol
momentum."

Volleyball downs
Wake Forest
' The UNC women's volleyball team
defeated Wake Forest Wednesday night, 15
7, 11-15, 15-4. Wake Assistant Coach Kelly
Jordan said she felt that Carolina is one of
the better teams in the state and that
although Wake boasts a moderately good
team, "Carolina did not play its best game to
beat us. They played in spurts and so did
we."
Carolina dominated the first game, but the
Deacons came back and put up a hard fight
to win the second. The third game wa a
blowout,-and Jordan said she thinks the
reason was that Wake was tired.
"I thought we were doing good in the
second game, but then when the third game
started, I could tell we were in trouble. We
were playing tired," she said.
One reason Wake Forest was so easily
dominated, Jordan said, was because of the
inconsistent play of standouts JaneSatchell
and Janet Oozier.
"They are our power spikers, and when
they play erratic, the team plays erratic," she
said.
