Pi Kaps take
IM grid title
Pi Kappa Phi, led by Steve Briganti's 53
yard field goal and the running of
quarterback Kevin Caddell, blanked the
Granville 69ers, 42-0, to win the All-Campus
tag football championship Tuesday.
Briganti's kick helped the Pi Kaps take a
10-0 lead at the half. In the second half,
buoyed by the running of Caddell, the Pi
Kaps cruised to the victory.
Pi Kappa Phi defeated the graduate
independent champion, Slack Pack, 26-25 in
the semi-finals, while Granville, through a
random drawing by the intramural office,
drew a bye.
"The game was a letdown, really," said
Dick Moore, a member of the victorious Pi
Kaps. "We had come to play, and it was not
that exciting a game."
preview of what the Tar Heels might expect
today.
"1 thought we played pretty well against
them. They're a hustling team, and they
played good defense and picked up a lot of
shots. Miller said.
Miller said she also feels they will be
prepared mentally.
"I think they'll be ready, since we just beat
them (Tuesday) night," she said. "1 don't
think they'll have a real psychological
advantage, though. All the teams will be
really psyched up for the state tournament,"
she said.
The Tar Heels also defeated Division II
team High Point College, 16-14, 3-15, 15-8
Tuesday. Miller said playing a team that the
Tar Heels will not have to face in the state
tournament was an advantage for the team.
"I'm glad we got to play High Point," she
said. "We played really well, but we had a
mental lapse in the second game. That
showed us what we shouldn't do in the state."
The state tournament the District 1
North Carolina Association of
Intercollegiate Athletics for Women State
Tournament -- comprises N.C. State, East
Carolina University, Appalachian State
University, UNC-Greensboro, Duke and
UNC. The tournament has a double
elimination format.
Because of this format, the teams know
who they will play one game in advance. If
the Tar Heels beat UNC-G, they will play
Duke at 4:30 p.m.
Duke has been a problem for Carolina in
the past. Duke won on Oct. 18 in Chapel
Hill, 10-15, 15-6, 14-16, 11-15. The TarHeels
also lost to the Blue Devils in the Hurricane
Volleyball Classic Oct. 22 in Louisburg, 15
1, 15-11, 15-10.
tournament. Miller said she is optimistic
about the Tar Heels' chances of winning.
"We've had a good season, and that will
positively affect us. It doesn't matter what
our record is against Duke or anybody now
that we're in the state," Miller sajd.
In preparing for the state tournament,
Miller said that she has not been stressing
any one thing in particular. "We've practiced
like we've been practicing for a month,
Miller said. "We spent a lot of time on
defense and overall team play."
From the state tournament, two teams go
on to the five-state regional tournament.
"It's just like always." she said. "If we play
well, we have a good chance of winning."

Let's face it.
Turkeys don't sound,
very good. Some,
stereos don't sound
very good either.
That's because they're'
turkeys. The problem is that many stereo turkeys look a
lot like the real thing. So you get stuck with electronic
poultry when you shop for good audio.
At Atlantis Sourjd, that isn't possible. We don't
stock turkeys, no matter how hungry we are. We sell
only the finest audio products, and give you a boggling
selection to choose from. Here's just a sample:
