Arts Desk has suggestions for Christmas giving
By CHIP ENSSLIN
Arts Editor
If you're stumped for Christmas gift
ideas, the Daily Tar Heel Arts and
Entertainment Department has a few
suggestions that may help.
A semester of junk mail and
promotional paraphernalia and a steady
stream of hucksters and commercial
sales people have not dulled the Arts
Desk's willingness to share a few out-of-the-ordinary
tidbits.
One of the more off-the-wall press
releases came from the National
Organization for the Reform of
Marijuana Laws.
Its bottom-of-the-line offerings are
inexpensive match books emblazoned
with the distinctive NORML logo.
Various bumper stickers are also

reasonably priced. Those of us more
excited about NORML may opt for a
gold-leaf marijuana pin, "the new
American olive branch," or a handsome
Liberate Marijuana pin, each for $1.25.
NORML or Liberate Marijuana T
shirts will run you $5.00, and a deluxe
cream-colored cotton shirt covered with

"I was late for my biology exam.
But hiy biology came first. I was
starving. So I picked up a BigTwin at
Hardee's and took it with me. I didn't
know the parts of a Paramecium, so
instead I drew and labelled the Big
Twin's charbroiled beef patties, let
tuce, cheese and special sauce.The
prof gave me an "A" and asked

the new year's Cannabis calendar, which
costs $4.00. Each month features a lush,
full color photo of marijuana from
around the world, complete with
informative text and lunar data. For

Holiday greeting cards depicting red
and green drawings of marijuana plants

children will be enjoyed by adults as well
and has received good reviews in
newspapers around the Southeast.
The tale is narrated by Amanda's

to different people for various reasons
for 14 Christmasses.
Amanda's Tree is illustrated by Mrs.
Jones' Chesapeake, Va., neighbor and
friend, Jo Vansant.
It is for sale at the Intimate Book
Shop, the Card and Gift Shop and UNC
Student Stores for $1.75.
