Hanna points out that the Science Fiction and Fantasy Club was formed more than a year ago six months before Star Wars. "I started a science fiction club at the University of Georgia," says Hanna, a graduate student in chemistry. "When I came to school here, I saw a large amount of interest but no formal organization. So we went through all the red tape to become an authorized club. Susan Hanna says she was not really interested in science fiction until she met her husband Allen. "Fantasy is like Tolkien, whereas science fiction is more technology," she says, "In fact, we saw Star Wars four times." "People who like science fiction are more optimistic and less frightened than those who prefer fantasy," Allen Hanna says. "We realize that it could happen in the next few years. For instance, Jules Verne's imaginary submarines are now commonplace. Moon trips to H. G. Wells are like moon colonies to us. 1 Nothing But Books In Our -YARD-SALE Saturday, April 8 (weather permitting) Starting at 10:30 AM The Old Book Corner 137 A EAST ROSEMARY STREET OPPOSITE TOWN PARKING LOT CHAPEL HILL N.C. 27514 riulMI1"::- I....W:.L It's a Great Day for a Great Salad! fresh, crisp, delicious... Ebony Images. The editor of the mini-yearbook. BcrnaDine Ward, said the publication was to go to the printer's today, but the book now will be delayed and distribution will take place in the fall. The request was presented to the new Finance Committee March 29. which referred the request to the Student Affairs Committee. The Student Affairs committee voted that CGC should nol fund two yearbooks, but that the committee would approve ol lunding the book if it was commemorative of BSM's 10 year history, which the organization is now celebrating. "As I look at it," he said, "I don't feel the discrepancy is huge. I feel Ihey overstated the bid, but not by the thousands of dollars it may have seemed initially. I don't think they handled it well. They came asking for money without knowing what they needed. That's absurd." Jacobson said other factors enetered into the council's decision. "I fell that it was a yearbook with a commemorative section." he said. (Of Ihe 52-page publication. 17 pages have been allotted lo BSM history.) "Also the fact that they can generate the funds themselves ( The 1977 edition of Ebony linages was self-funded.) entered into the decision. The fact that they have been in financial trouble before with the loan and things didn't help." Ward said she felt her organization had been caught in an unnecessary bureaucratic tangle. "1 feel we have been drug through the mire." she said. "It was just a waste of time. The point was raised at the first meeting not to give money to two yearbooks. They should have left it at that.
