The UNC volleyball team had little
trouble adding two more wins to its 12-3
record as it defeated East Carolina, and
-Appalachian State in Tuesday's tri
match in Carmichael Auditorium.
Tar Heel coach Beth Miller said the
wins were satisfying, although she
wasn't particularly pleased with her
team's performance.
"We have a lot of room for
improvement," she said. "I don't feel
like we were impressive, but 1 was
pleased with the wins...I just don't really
feel like we played that well."
After ECU downed Appalachian two
games to one in the opener, the Tar
Heels handed the Mountaineers their
second loss of the night winning the first
two games and the match.
Furman and Dave McBride of Rollins,
all at 73. .
Other Tar Heel scores are David
Whitfield at 76; Mike West, 77; Billy
Williford, 79; and John Spelman, 81.
Other schools in the I4-team field are:
Rollins, 309; Florida Southern, 310;
Wake Forest, 311; Furman, 312; Duke,
315; Georgia, 316; Appalachian State,
320; and N.C. State and Marshall, 328.
Play concludes today at Grandfather

teams in the Southeast with Kentucky,
Tennessee, N.C. State and South
Carolina entered. Others in the 10-team
field are High Point, Duke, ECU,
College of Charleston and Georgia.
Carolina has already defeated three
of its nine potential opponents in the
tourney, but Miller said the wins won't
come easy with several of the region's
top teams competing.
Kentucky, with a regional
championship last year, enters with
perhaps the most impressive
credentials. South Carolina and N.C.
State both bring state-championship
titles into the tourney, and Tennessee
also brings its good volleyball
reputation into the competition.
The tourney gets
