Where would you go in Chapel Hill if you were looking for a handmade Indian blouse, a crazy greeting card or a pair of funky Chinese earrings? If Rainbowtique is your answer, you'd better go stock up now. The Rainbowtique, with its musky aroma and its colorful window displays, will be closing soon after supplying Chapel Hillians with all sorts of unusual items for three years. The Rainbowtique, located at 153 E. Franklin St., has been known for its selection of unusual clothes, gift items and of course many, many rainbows. "There's a very good chance that Saturday will be our last day," said owner Prakash Dalai. "We may stay open next Mon day and Tuesdav. but if sales- continue as well as thev have been going, we'll be sold out Saturday." Dalai said that although he and his wife JoAnne "love Chapel Hill and don't want to leave," their goal is to have a much larger space for their store about 2,000 square feet if possible. The Dalals would like to relocate their store in Chapel Hill. "We have been trying to acquire a space here, but with no luck," Dalai said. "If we find one, we will stay here, but if not, we will go to Florida and try our luck there." "I have lived all over the country, and I must say that Chapel Hill has been my favorite place," he said. "Business has been very good here, but with so many of our expenses rising, we feel that we must expand in order to maintain our good business two or three years down the line.". Danziger's, a Fiorrucci-style store with items ranging in price from 5 cents to $5,000, will move into the Rainbowtique's location. Mot E?M CGC committees elect chairpersons With just one more month in office, two committees of the Campus Govern ing Council elected new chairpersons Monday. Phil Painter, district 19, became the new Rules and Judiciary Committee chairperson after Laura Sheets resigned to take an internship in Washington, D.C. The CGC is scheduled to hold its first meeting of the new semester tonight at 7:30 in 213 of the Carolina Union. Killer granted stay of execution RALEIGH (AP) Convicted murderer James Hutchins, who was scheduled to die Friday in North Carolina's gas chamber, was granted a stay of execution by the state Supreme Court Monday. The petition of appeal was filed by his lawyers earlier Monday. The earliest the petition could be taken up would be in February, however Supreme Court clerk Gregory Wallace said a more likely date would be in March. "If the petition is denied, the case will be sent back to the McDowell County Superior Court to have a new date set," Wallace said. 'According to statute it (the execution) would be set for 60-90 days after the Superior Court hearing." Hutchins had filed a hand-written motion Thursday asking that no more ap peals be filed in his 1979 murder conviction in the slayings of two Rutherford County deputies and a state highway patrolman, saying he wanted to die. He later changed his mind and asked his attorneys to appeal. Election Laws will also be discussed. (AP) Four jets flown by Thunderbird precision pilots collided in the air Monday during a routine practice flight, killing all four pilots. "Four T-38 Talons of the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds crashed at approxi mately 10 a.m. (Monday)," said Sgt. John Conner, spokesman at Nellis Air Force Base. "The four twin-engine jet trainers were engaged in a routine prac tice session." The crash occurred near the Indian Springs auxiliary airfield of Nellis, an air base about 40 miles northwest of Las Vegas. A board of officers was being formed to investigate the accident, Conner said. The Thunderbirds were preparing for the upcoming season of precision air shows that begin in March, he said. Last year, two Thunderbird pilots died in crashes. Court restricts 'deprogramming' WASHINGTON (AP) The Supreme Court indicated Monday it would let Unification Church members use an 1871 law, aimed at protecting freed slaves from the Ku Klux Klan, to sue people who try to deprogram them. The court, without comment, cleared the way for one member of the Rev. Sun Myung Moon's controversial church to sue 11 people for $51 million under the law. Thomas Joseph Ward filed suit in 1979, charging that 33 people including his parents and other relatives conspired to make him renounce his belief in the Rev. Moon's teachings.
