Michaels repeats Wednesday, March 16, 1983The Daily Tar Heel3 as All-American Jan Michaels became the first three time All-American in University of North Carolina history when he placed third in the NCAA Wrestling Championships last weekend in Oklahoma City. Michaels finished highest among the 19 Atlantic Coast Conference wrestlers who qualified for the tournament. As a team, the Tar Heels finished 17th in the nation. UNC assistant coach Tom Martucci said that head coach Bill Lam's goal go ing into the season was to have the Tar Heels finish in the Top 20 for the tourna ment. Michaels was the only wrestler from North Carolina to place in the tourna ment. The Tar Heels sent four other wrestlers... Al Palacio lost to eventual champion Adam Cuestas of Cai. State-Bakersfield at 1 18, which put him out of the ninning. John Aumiller lost his first-round match at 126 to be eliminated. Bill Gaffney won his first-round match before being elimi nated by Mike Rogers of Navy in the second round.
