All Rights Reserved 12684 With almost as many team players reporting to the Student Health Service as to basketball practice, UNC women's coach Jennifer Alley has to be pleased with her Tar Heels' 77-71 victory at Wake Forest Tuesday night. Senior center Tresa Brown was among the sick yet she scored 22 points and grab bed 11 rebounds as UNC improved its record to 15-2 overall and 5-0 in the ACC. "Tresa did a tremendous job on the free throw line in maintaining her concen tration," Alley said. "She was suffering from chills and fever. The flu bug has hit the UNC Tar Heels." Meanwhile, junior forward Ranti Killian was immune to the Wake Forest defense, hitting her first seven shots, most coming from long range. Killian hit 18 points and led UNC with 12 rebounds. Alley praised Killian for an excellent game at both ends of the court. "She did a tremendous job defensively and on the boards," the coach said. "Her overall game might have been her best of the year and not just in terms of her scoring." Freshman Dawn Royster added 13 points for UNC. Lisa Stockton helped Wake Forest stay within range in the se cond half, finishing with 16. "It was a relatively close game all night," Alley said. "Wake Forest played a tenacious game and hit the outside jumper against our defense." Alley's team hosts Georgia Tech on Saturday afternoon, following the UNC men's basketball team's game with the Yellow Jackets. The UNC wrestling team geared up for Friday's grudge match against N.C. State by defeating Duke 45-0 Tuesday night at Carmichael Auditorium. It was the Tar Heels' first ACC match this year, bringing their overall record to 7-4. Duke, now 3-3, dropped its second conference match. "State hasn't had their full lineup yet .all year," Lam said. "But they'll have everyone ready against us. It is an ex tremely important match." Lam is conceding an automatic six points for the Wolfpack in the ; heavyweight matchup where N.C. State enters Ail-American Tab Thacker, who has pinned every one of his opponents this year. Lam said the Tar Heels must win at 118, 126, 142, 167 and 190 if they are to defeat the Wolfpack. "We feel that we have got to win in those weight classes in order to have a good chance," he said. "Each of them will be very tough, however. We need to be sure not to give up any major decisions in the matches that State is likely to win." North Carolina had wins in all these weight classes against the Blue Devils Tuesday, but then the Tar Heels had wins in all 10 divisions.
