Runoff elections will be held today in the
races for Student Body President, Senior
Class President and Senior Class
Treasurer. Runoffs will also be held for the

to approve a room tax to promote
tourism, despite similar moves by
other resort areas in the state.
The Greater Raleigh Chamber of
Commerce and the Raleigh Hotel
Motel Association are urging local
politicians to back a 2 percent room
tax to establish a tourism authority to
attract tourists, businessmen and con
ventions. ,
The room tax would need approval
by both the Raleigh city council and
Wake County commissioners before
local legislators would take it to the
Legislature.

has been getting a lot of attention
when he takes to the golf course lately,
but not because of a grooved swing,
booming drives or holes in one.
Other golfers have been stopping
and staring at Johnson's new caddy
a 3-year-old dog.
Johnson taught "Superdog" to
caddy in only one afternoon, less time
than it often takes to train a human
companion.
The dog was supposed to be a wed
ding present from another relative to
Johnson's son. But Johnson took a
likeing to the mutt, and about a week
ago decided to teach him to caddy.
