2The Daily Tar HeelTuesday, April Student Attorney General assistants selected By SALLIE KRAWCHECK Staff Wriler Junior David Maslia, has been named Student Government attorney general's executive assistant. The position was created this semester by the Committee of Student Conduct because of the heavy case load being handled by the attorney general's office. Attorney General Keith Johnson said about 150 reports per year are investi gated, with about 120 cases going before the Honor Court. It is the attorney general's duty to examine and look into reports to determine if they require the court's attention. Johnson said he hoped to make some changes in the attorney general's office, klan through the longest trial in the history of this state and were found innocent " Defense attorney Thomas Keith said the jury apparently concluded that the CWP provoked the violence. Keith said major factors in the jury's decision were, "Trying them twice and the fact that we portrayed the communists as aggressors who were trying to capitalize on a situa tion and cause a riot." The attorney general's assistant would explore but not defend the decision made by the court, Johnson said. In addition, the attorney general's office is sending a short ques tionnaire to faculty members to get feed back on the judicial process. The attorney general's office will also expand services to students through other means. Students accused of violating the Honor Code may not necessarily have done so, Johnson said, but often they "have a lot of other problems, a lot of other things on their minds." They may have problems in taking tests, for exam ple, or they may be exhibiting behavior that warrants counseling, he said. From page 1 widows, however, said the government had given the jury too narrow a definition of conspiracy. "I'm shocked and outraged," said a weeping Dale Sampson, wife of slain demonstrator William Sampson. "The overwhelming evidence for oyer four years was that they should have been found guilty. A crying 11 -month-old baby found crawling among the corpses was the only survivor of the Sunday afternoon massacre, which officials called New York city's worst mass murder in memory. All 10 victims were shot in the head from the front and some were "almost in repose," police said, indicating the shots may have caught them unawares. A pregnant woman, ap parently shot as she fed a child, still had a spoon and pudding can in her hand. There apparently was no panic or struggle. Carmine Rossi, a baker who found the survivor, said some victims were sitting on a couch and on chairs in front of a blaring TV set. "There were bodies all over the place," Rossi said. "They were sitting up. It looked like a wax museum, like dummies." American bodies returned PRETORIA, South Africa The bodies of two American diplomats killed in a bomb blast in South-West Africa began the journey home Mon day, their slayers still unidentified. U.S. Ambassador Herman Nickel expressed the hope that the U.S.-sponsored peace effort to end a drawn-out bush war for control of the South African territory would not be set back by the killings.
