The '82 win brought $2,500 to UNC's General Scholarship Fund but the prize amount has not yet been determined for this year, Black said. Jeff Carnes, another team member, said there was no na tional championship tournament last year due to loss of spon sorship by television and radio, but that NBC picked up the tournament again this year. Carnes said Maryland's and Princeton's teams were tough, but UNC was prepared to win. Carolina's team recently won the National Invitation Tourna ment at Emory University in Atlanta where they compiled a record of 14 wins to only one loss, which was due to what Black called "tournament fatigue."
