Follow this ad for further details Massage parlor By MATT CAMPBELL Staff Writer A new ordinance that would eliminate prostitution in massage parlors in Orange County is being proposed by Sheriff Lindy Pendergrass. The new law would require the licensing, accompanied by fees, of any masseuse wishing to work in Orange County. The massage parlors themselves would be subject to frequent inspection to ensure that illegal activities were not occurring. According to Pendergrass, a similar ordinance in Durham may have caused massage parlors and their clients to move their activities to Orange County. There are currently three massage parlors in the county. Two of the three Durham men charged in connection with a three-month undercover investigation of University Massage on W. Franklin Street were found not guilty in court last week. The third man failed to appear in court. University Massage owner William Douglas Johnson, 42, and manager Phillip Lee Morris, 43, were found not guilty I Campus Calendar i Tuesday j Noon Campus Christian Fellowship discussion lunch in Frank Por ter Graham Lounge. Chapel Hill District Court Judge Patricia Hunt ordered the arrest of Michael Gerald Dickerson, 32, of Durham, who is assistant manager of the parlor, and raised his bond to $5,000 from $3,750. Assistant District Attorney Carl R. Fox was unavailable for comment yesterday, but he stated earlier that it would be unlikely that the state would pursue the charge of operating a house of prostitution against Dickerson. Five women were also arrested as a result of the investigation. They were- Sarah Brown, Diana Fortinberry, Patricia Massey and Janie Teele. All were found guilty of solicitating for prostitution, except Massey who did not show up for trial. Massey, who did not appear in court, is charged with five counts of solicitation for prostitution and soliciting for cirmes against nature. The state will pursue these charges if she can be located, according to Fox. Carroll 106. 4 p.m. UCPPS information session for Washington, D.C. Internships.
