Duke player taken in the first round
when Denver selected the 6-8 forward
from Scottsdale, Ariz., as the 18th
pick.
Tm really happy," Alarie said.
"My first choice was to go to Denver.
There wasn't much chance I'd be
picked up earlier and Denver seemed
to be the best situation for me. 1 was
a little surprised 1 went 18th instead
of 1 6th, but that really doesn't matter.
My style of play and the fact I'm the
product of a great program at Duke
make me very suited to playing for -
Denver.
Alarie, along with Dawkins,
scored over 2,000 career points. He
averaged 17.2 points and 6.2
rebounds last season and was a first
team all-conference selection.

McMillan by Seattle and 7-foot
Greek center Panagiotis Fasoulas by

David Henderson, a guard,

The film is a very positive, fore-
going the negativism found in many
works about lesbians like "The
Children's Hour," but "Desert
Hearts" leaves the audience hanging
at the end.
"Its not a cliched ending," Deitch
said. "1 didn't want an ending where
they're going into the sunset. It's a
positive ending, but not tied in a
knot."
Deitch appears in the film to
deliver the movie's main message or
metaphor. She enters in the role of
the Hungarian gambler in a Reno
casino who says, "If you don't play,
you don't win."
When asked why she chose the
part, Deitch said, "1 wanted to be
in the film. That was an appropriate
place so I took it."
