"Now I don't want to make this sound like some serious story," he says to clarify any misconceptions, "but I want to be respected as an athlete and as a person by my coaches. (Last year) I wanted a little more attention from them, but this summer I decided only I can do what needs to be done. "If I respect myself and try to improve, it'll come." Harris, a senior from Ashville, says he runs because it's fun. Former teammate Mark Scott agrees. "Reggie is one of the best people I know at being able to have fun and success in athletics and academ ics at the same time," Scott says. That's the attitude Harris is taking into the NCAA regionals in Green Call Ronnie at 942-6168 for more info. 1 p.m. Pi Beta Phi Sorority will have a Fine Crafts Sale from Gattlinburg, Tenn., at 109 Hillsborough St. until 5 p.m. 3 p.m. The BSM Gospel Choir will hold its Fall Concert in Great Hall. Last year Harris was consistently the No. 5 or No. 6 runner on the team. This year he's consistently No. 2 or No. 3; Harris will start in the No. 2 spot when the men's and women's teams travel to Greenville this weekend. Mike McGowan would have run in that position, but his appendix ruptured earlier this week, and he will miss the rest of the season. McGowan's absence diminishes the team's chances to qualify for the nationals as a team, Harris says. "We're going to miss Mike . . . poor ole Mike; he's still in the hospital. He's good," Harris says sincerely. "Coach (Dennis) Craddock told us about Mike," Harris says, altering his voice to sound like a coach. Then he (Craddock) said, "If you guys go down there with the attitude you're already defeated, there's no use Professor Tamte Horan, 225 Hill Hall, 962-5695.
