Senior Ail-American Jim Farmer led the men's team to a new record in the distance medley relay with the fastest 1,600-meter leg of his career. The team of Clive Harriott, Robert Vineyard, Johan Boakes and Farmer finished fifth with a time of 9:33.05, breaking the old record of 9:39.04' w hich w as set in 1972. Farmer's 1, 600 meter leg of 3:57.01 w as the equival ent of a 3:5S.02 mile run, the first sub-four minute mile of his career.
