funny, add to the show's popular
ity. Cliff (John Ratzenberger) is the
trivia king. When he isnt parading
around with a squash that is the
"spitting image of George Shultz,"
he is explaining DMA "The roots of
physical aggression found in the
male species are in the DNA mole
cule itself, in fact, the very letters
DNA are an acronym for Dames are
Not Aggressors."
Cliff's buddy -Norm (George
wendt) drinks a lot. in a typical
exchange. Woody (Woody Harrel
son) asks, "Do you want a drink?"
Norm says, "isn't it kind of
early?"

"No. for stupid questions,"
returns Norm. Or when it really "is
early for a beer. Norm replies,
"Float a corn flake in it"
The supporting characters are
not as well developed as Sam and
Diane, but they do change over
time. Carta (Rhea Pertman) and
Frasier (Kelsey Crammer) have
married Eddie and Liiith, respec
tively. Woody has become a little
more worldly, yet remains essen
tially naive. Norm has traded his
white collar for a blue one, and Cliff
no longer lives with his mother.
The show is undoubtedly the
best of the last 10 years, if not
of the last 50. The strength of the

writing and the actors' perfor
mances make Cheers a place you
truly want to go. The ability of
TV actors to come into your home
and make you want to enter theirs
is truly an accomplishment
From the care taken to repro
duce the Bull & Finch Pub on which
the story is based (with hardwood,
brass and red leather stool covers)
to writing which does not insult
your intelligence. "Cheers" is the
ultimate situation comedy. It is
the highest evolution of the genre,
and it truly shows the potential
of television as art.
