h trouble?' Student Legal Services cami help From staff reports So you finally found the dream apartment you've been looking for. The one with the beer cellar under the kitchen and a sauna in the bath room. You know you shouldn't be hasty, but you just have to live there, so you sign the lease without reading it very carefully. Later you learn it has an automatic renewal clause and a $50 service charge for the beer cel lar. Sound familiar? You know Dad Bar Golf isn't going to like this very much! What's a student to do in this situ ation? Well, for starters, students can take the lease to Student Legal Serv ices for a free evaluation. Student Legal Services, located in the Student Union, offers free legal advice on almost any subject and provides free court representation for students who have landlord problems, minor consumer problems, or those who need expunction or want to settle an uncontested divorce. SLS is made up of three attor neys, headed by director Dottie Bemholz, who are available to help students solve minor legal problems. According to attorney Dave Cres cenzo, the legal service counsels stu dents on subjects ranging from driv ing under the influence to credit prob lems. "The single subject we deal with most is landlord-tenant problems," from page 12 mous Hector's, where you can taste Greek specialties at American prices. No beer here, but you need the break heading into the back nine. Hole 10, Par 3, 309 yards, Linda's Keep your tee shot low as you head downstairs to a cozy little spot next door to Hector's. You're back on world famous Franklin Street now, so try to get down in two. The only birdies you will see from here on out will be the kind that fly over head. Hole 11, Par 3, 357 yards, Four Corners You might want to mail your scorecard in now, as you pass the post office on the way to "Four Cs." Stick close to the walls and say hello to Dean Smith, Michael Jordan and the rest of the Tar Heels. Pitch ers go very well with forwards, cen ters and guards on this hole. Oh, and about Smith and Jordan, they're pic tures. But at this point, it really doesn't matter. Hole 12, Par 3, 265 yards, On The Hill You can reach the green with a nine iron, but watch the singer and guitarist on stage. Listen up and relax, it's your last chance to do so voluntarily. Hole 13, Par 4, 369 yards, Play ers Finally, your chance to show off your moves on the dance floor. Golfing attire will do just fine. At this club, if you're not a member, remember to bring some extra cash for the greens fees. Hole 14, Par 3, 266 yards, The Rat It's tough to find the green, actually, in what is more of a restau rant, but it qualifies as a Chapel Hill legend. See page 16. Hole 15, Par 4, 349 yards, Fran klin Street Bar and Grill Watch for groundhogs as you burrow under ground for the last time in the home stretch. Remember, one beer, and one beer only, at each place. It's easy to forget along the way. Hole 16, Par 4, 367 yards, Spanky's Don't get excited. This has nothing to do with Alfalfa, Buck wheat, Froggy and the rest of the gang. But it has a lot to do excellent window seats, overlooking Franklin Street, and fine scenery, both in and out of the restaurant. Hole 17, Par 5, 609 yards, He's Not Here If the weather is warm, and the sun is shining, there is no place better than the village green. He's Not's insideoutside combina tion is the perfect blend. Buy a blue cup that's why it's a par five HE'S NOT HERE on the Village Green. presents Valence FRIDAY NIGHT, JULY 21 and See-You SATURDAY NIGHT, JULY 22 find Don't Forget Our Tuesday Night Specials! Blue Cups $150 Pitchers $250 then grab onto the grass so you don't fall off the Earth. Hole 18 Say hello to Billy at Time-Out, a 24-hour chicken and biscuits place that looks more and more like a gourmet restaurant as you approach 3 a.m. There you have it your guide to bars in the Chapel Hill area. Cut it out and save it But keep the following tips in mind: Don't drink until you're 21, don't use fake IDs, know when to say when, never mix Hector's and Time Out, and, above all, never, ever write an article that makes it sound as if you condone the abuse of alcohol. Crescenzo said. "We also deal with a lot of traffic problems. We will give advice on any subject with the caveat that we are not experts on every type of law. "We get a fair number of students with problems related to using fake IDs. That can be a serious offense, for both the person with the ID and the person who lends it to them." The attorneys cannot represent a student who wants to file suit against another student because, as Crescenzo explained, the attorneys represent all UNC students. They are also prohib ited from representing students in suits filed against the state of North Caro lina. In an average month, SLS sees about 200 students, with August and September being the busiest months and June and July the slowest. Students who are planning to en ter into a lease in the fall are encour aged to bring it by the legal services, Crescenzo said. Students who don't are "crazy not to," he said. The Student Legal Services of fice, in Room 222 of the Union, can be reached at 962-1303.
