So here's the DTH "Who's Who" a guide to the new and old names and faces you'll be hearing and seeing over the next year. ... - - Asa Bell, Jr. a law student from Wadesboro, is the new chief justice of the Student Supreme Court. Dorothy "Dottie" Bernholz, General College adviser, is director of Student Legal Services. The service provides legal advice for students but cannot accept student vs. student or student vs. University problems. Donald Boulton is vice chancellor and dean of student affairs. His duties include overseeing the Department of Student Life, the Carolina Union, the Campus Y, the University Center and the University counseling service. Mack Brown is in his second year as head football coach. Gillian Cell is dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, which oversees academic departments that do not fall under the domain of a specialized school. Gene Davis, a senior from Raleigh, is speaker of Student Congress. He is chief officer of the legislative branch of Student Government and presides over all congress meetings. He and the stu dent body president sign all bills passed by congress. Michael Douglas is the new chair man of the Department of Biochemistry and Nutrition. Douglas, most recently associate professor of biochemistry at the University of Texas Health Center in Dallas, suc ceeds Mary Ellen Jones. . .. Ruth Dowling, a junior from Providence, R.I.', is chairwoman of the Undergraduate Honor Court. She presides at all Honor Court hearings, where students charged with honor violations are tried. Robert Eubanks is chairman of UNC's Board of Trustees, the govern ing board of the UNC-Chapel Hill campus. Lisa Frye, a junior from Conover, is president of the Carolina Athletic Association. She represents student athletic needs to the administration and oversees such areas as ticket dis tribution and Homecoming Week activities. Paul Hardin is the chancellor for UNC-CH. The Charlotte native most recently served as president of Drew University in New Jersey. He super vises the operation of this campus. Liz Jackson, a senior from Dunwoody, Ga., is president of the Residence Hall Association, which sponsors programs for residents and represents on-campus students in dealing with the administration on housing issues. Wayne Kuncl is director of University housing. He is responsible for all aspects of living in the resi dence halls. Brien Lewis, a senior from Toronto, is Student Body President. He is head of the executive branch of student government and represents student interests to the administration. He is also an ex-officio member of the Board of Trustees. Kim McLean, a senior from Burlington, is president of the Black Student Movement. She represents the interests of black students on campus. Virginia Mewbourne, a senior from Charlotte, is the student attorney general. She is in charge of investi gating possible violations of UNC's Honor Code. Dennis O'Connor is vice chancel lor of academic affairs and provost. Frederic Schroeder is dean of stu dents. The office is a department in the Division of Student Affairs and deals with many extracurricular aspects of student life, such as student government. Dean Smith is, of course, head coach of the men's varsity basketball team. In his 28 years at UNC, he has led the Tar Heels to more than 600 wins, including seven Final Four berths and the NCAA championship in 1982. CD. Spangler is president of the UNC system. He oversees UNC's 16 campus system. His office is at the General Administration building on South Road. John Swofford is athletic director. He oversees varsity sports and deals with sports-related issues. Ben Tuchi is the new vice chancel lor for Business and Finance. Tuchi replaces Farris Womack, who resigned in January 1988. Wayne Jones had been acting vice chancellor since May 1988. Tuchi was most recently senior vice president for administration and finance at the University of Arizona in Tucson. He directs the management of UNC's business and financial affairs-including administrative data processing, the budget, contracts and grants, engi neering and construction, facilities planning, payroll, personnel, the Physical Plant, property management . and purchasing. Judith Wegner, professor of law and former associate dean at UNC, is the new dean of the Law School. Wegner will succeed Kenneth Broun, dean from 1979-1987. Ronald Link, professor of law, had been acting dean since Broun's resignation. Wegner is the first woman to hold this position.
