tude of the problems facing the envi
ronment did not overwhelm people into
thinking they can't make a difference.
"People shouldn't feel paralyzed
from taking action, thinking that what
they're doing is insignificant," he said.
"Every tree that gets planted counts.
Every newspaper that gets recycled
counts."
Earth Week will also offer three
dances. Dan Coleman, an organizer for
the Take a Spin Dance, said these events
were a good way for people to have fun
and learn about the environment.
The Take a Spin Dance will feature
a rock band and Trinidad North, a reg
gae group, as well as representatives
from 18 environmental organizations.
Admission will be $5 and donations
will be accepted. The dance is in its
third year, and in the past as many as
1 ,000 people have attended, Coleman
said. "That a thousand people wqujd
come is very significant," he said.;,.
The Weaver Street Market in
Carrboro, managed by Ruffin Slater,
will sponsor an Earth Day celebration
April 21 with a fair featuring music;
speakers and market vendors.
The store will offer customers a-list
of tips that can protect the environ-1
ment, such as information about reus
able bags and containers, Slater said.

"Lisa is very bright, energetic and

Frye said she became interested in
working with the CAA when she joined
Carol ina Fever her freshman year. "I've

meeting of Carolina Fever, which was
just getting started then."
The increasing size of the CAA staff
is helping expand its areas of focus, she
said. "My staff this year is unbeliev

bigger staff that we have now allows us
to spread out the work, and get more
done, but sometimes having a bigger
staff means it's harder to make decisions."
