the university share is the development
of a public transit system suitable to the
academic community, much like the
system in Chapel Hill, Durgin said.
Kent Zimmerman, director of the
Boulder Convention and Visitor Bureau,
urged Chapel Hill to make more money
by following Boulder's lead in raising
taxes on certain luxuries.
Zimmerman noted Chapel Hill's
advantages over Boulder, including
historic sites, fall foliage and festivals.
Chapel Hill could use those advantages,
in addition to tourism-related taxes, to
enlarge the local economy, he said.
The representatives of the PPP and
from Boulder were pleased with the
results of the correspondence they have
kept, and they are closer to reaching
many of their goals, they said.
"Our basic thrust was to meet as
many community leaders as we can in
the city," Hardin said. "We gathered a
lot of insight into our problems from
people who had experienced similar -problems."
