Shoe The Associated Press LOS ANGELES The Academy Award presentations and a Barbara Walters special that followed propelled ABC to the top of the ratings last week, dropping NBC to No. 2 for the second time in three weeks. CBS came in third with only two entries in the Top 20, its "60 Minutes" news magazine and Duke's 79-77 upset win over the University of Nevada Las Vegas in the National Collegiate Ath letic Association basketball semifinals, the A.C. Nielsen Co. reported Tuesday. "60 Minutes" placed third and the bas ketball contest was No. 1 3 in the weekly ratings competition. The 63rd Annual Academy Awards show Monday from the Shrine Audito rium scored a 28 rating and helped give ABC its best night since the network broadcast Super Bowl XXV in January. For the second time last month, ABC newswoman Barbara Walters hurt the normally first-place NBC. The "Barbara Walters Special," featuring Oscar winners Whoopi Goldberg and Jeremy Irons, rode the Academy Awards coattails to finish fourth. Two weeks earlier, Walter's inter view with Desert Storm commander Gen. H. Norman Schwarzkopf helped ABC top NBC in the weekly ratings race. ABC had a 13.5 rating for the week with five shows intheTop 10, including the Oscar telecast, the Walters' special, "Roseanne" at No. 5, "Coach" at No. 6, and a repeat of "Family Matters" at No. 10. NBC, with "Cheers," "Unsolved Mysteries," "A Different World" and "L.A. Law" in the Top 10, had an 1 1.9 rating for the week, followed by CBS with 11.4. Each ratings point represents 93 1 ,000 households. ABC and Peter Jennings also led the network news with a 10.7. NBC and Tom Brokaw had a 9.3, while CBS and Dan Rather received a 9.1. Lost in the clouds was the return of ABC's "Twin Peaks" after a 1 -month hiatus. The show finished in 76th place with a 6.2 rating. Here are the top 10 shows, their network and rating: "63rd Annual Academy Awards," ABC, 28.4; "Cheers," NBC, 20.6; "60 Minutes," CBS, 19.3; "Barbara Walters Special," ABC, 18.5; "Roseanne," ABC, 18.1; "Coach," ABC, 16.9; "Unsolved Mys teries," NBC, 16.8; "A Different World," NBC, 1 6.6; "L.A. Law," NBC, 16.6; and "Family Matters," ABC, 16.5. 4 V c yr7a n o , I III III II ' ! Illirill 1 tmmUiVifffi(rnM OKAK. Tl ViT taV iKieofiAAiTinM r 2 THE Daily Crossword by Rena M.
