from page 7 ing week as well as an educational one. This year. Rampage '92 and Parents' Weekend will be held during the same weekend. Rampage '92, therefore, pro vides different forms of entertainment for students and their parents. Friday night is considered our biggest event with a parade, a pep rally to be emceed by Woody Durham and the Franklin Street Extravaganza, Carolina's version of a mini-carnival. Through the help of various student organizations and the athletic depart ment, the CAA is able to bring this fun packed week to the UNC campus. Ram page, therefore, is a vehicle through which all student organizations may interact in an informal manner. It at tempts to relate all aspects of the UNC campus to other students. Plans for Rampage '92 were started immediately after Rampage '91 last November. After choosing a game and a name for the event, my Homecoming directors, Caroline Swift, Landa Bumey and Adam Beck, began working on planning this year's events. The coordi nation and involvement that goes on behind the scenes for the week of Home coming is amazing. Each morning of Rampage, balloons are blown- up to decorate the Pit for that day's activities. This year, some changes were made to the general structure of Rampage by the CAA cabinet. First of all, the women's soccer game on Sunday was the kickoff for the week. This attempted to start the week by focusing on one of our non-revenue teams. We also have moved the Pit movie, "The Bugs Bunny and Roadrunner Show," to Sunday night to expand Cross-Cultural Night The newest addition to Cross-Cultural Night is the inclusion of a story teller. This event still will include pre sentations of the individual cultures of the campus. The Homecoming queen policy also has been stated clearly. This revision was made to avoid ill feelings that sur faced last year about the selection pro cess. It is designed to keep Rampage in line with its original intent. All of these changes were made to improve Ram page '92 so we could better convey the true spirit of Homecoming. Before one has experienced Ram page, one is tempted to ask: Why would anyone be willing to get up at 6 a.m. every day to inflate hundreds of bal loons that will be discarded at the end of the day, coordinate games to entertain students and spend his or her evenings sponsoring one of a variety of shows? (It' s a question that I ask myself daily.) No, honestly, each year Rampage pro vides a means by which a group of individuals can help increase the spirit of the University and local communi ties. At the end of the week, one is able to look back on the past year of planning for this one extremely hectic week and know that he or she did something posi tive for Carolina. I would like to encourage all students and student organizations to become involved in this Carolina tradition. There are many opportunities to expand Ram page '92, but the effort of the entire campus is needed to do this. If you have any questions, please call the CAA of fice at 962-4300.
