Hi Kristen. I love you. -' ' ' Secret Admirer intheUni Indians from page 1 Pitch from page 5 got to say a lot of what was on our minds," he said. "But just because this happened, I don't think we can be satis fied." The group will meet with McCormick again in mid-February to discuss progress on hiring Native Americans, Maynor said. McCormick said he would discuss the group's concerns with department deans after group members gave him an updated list of qualified Native Ameri cans with doctorate degrees. "I'm waiting for them to send me an updated list of possible faculty candi dates, and then I will raise the matter with the deans," he said. "I think I understand the issues, and I'll try to relay them to others." ' In 1990," members of the Carolina Indian Circle met with Chancellor Paul Hardin and gave him a list of 250 Ph.D.s as well as a petition asking the adminis tration to actively recruit more Native Americans. No Native Americans have been hired since the protest. Locklear said he would obtain a list of candidates for McCormick as soon as possible. Maynor said the students would be patient with McCormick until the group met again in February. "Because he's new to the situation, we want to give him time, but it's been three years since the protest and 20 years since the circle was founded, and that was one of their original goals," Maynor said. Locklear said the group could be forced to take action similar to their 1990 march to South Building if the administration did not make progress. "If, when we meet in mid-February, they haven't made some progress, we're going to have to force them to do some thing because nine times out of 1 0 that' s the only way you can get something done at this University," he said. Maynor said the group would not be satisfied with just one Native-American hiring. "One Native-American fac ulty member is not necessarily the goal, but it's a start," he said. Locklear added that the group needed more than the small office space it now shared with three other groups in the Campus Y. He also said members wanted a Native-American curriculum. Richard Cole, dean of the School of Journalism and Mass Communication, said his department currently was inter viewing candidates to fill a faculty po sition and had interviewed a female Native American for the job. Cole said that the school had made no final decision but that the candidate would be given serious consideration. "We are committed to minority affairs and diversity," he said. Many other teams that deserve a chance will be left out of this year's title pic ture. For instance, No. 3 Florida State is playing better than any team, and its only loss was at Miami, when its punt returner suddenly forgot that he wasn't the quarterback. The No. 4 Texas A&M Aggies may have played a schedule as weak as the USSR's post-World War II invasions, but they're undefeated, un tied and deserving of a chance. Even Michigan, with more ties than most network anchormen, is undefeated and should get its shot. Colorado,' Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Nebraska, N.C. State, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Stanford, Syracuse and Washington would complete this year's field. The time has come for someone to win the national championship by run ning into the end zone, not by running to get his newspaper. fHomeilonei 1:00 2:00 3:45 4:30 SatSun 7:007:159:30 9:45 nightly (PG) On Two Screens Under Seige no passes or coupons 2:00 4:1 5 salsun 7:00 9:15 nightly (R) " - i T-Shirts-$1 1 1 5050 Sweatshirts-$24 I ADD $250 FOR POSTAGE t HANDLING I SIZES M -L-XL- XXL I SEND CHECK OR MONEY ORDER AND I ORDER INFO TO: I GRAPHICIMPACT J 62 Lower Main SL.Sunapee, NH 03782 j HP WE NEED. ir THE HONEY BAKED HAM CO. is in search of help during the holidays to fill our Sales Counter and Production positions.
